A ticket to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk would cost Kuril Island residents 10-15% of their monthly income; to Khabarovsk or Vladivostok the amount is 40-50%. All cases involve buying tickets at the lowest prices.
These data come from a report by Olga Talovskaya, a Master’s student at the Higher School of Economics, entitled ‘Cities in Territorial Isolation: Characteristics of Spatial and Socio-economic Development.’ She presented her report at the HSE conference 'The Future of the Arctic Region: Sustainable Development or Economic Growth?'
