Competitive Programming Federation Awards Student and Faculty Member from HSE University
As part of the FonCode 2024 contest, the Russian Competitive Programming Federation (CPF) held its first award ceremony. Fedor Romashov, a student of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science, won the best competitive programmer award, and Mikhail Gustokashin, Director of the FCS Centre of Student Competitions, was named the best coach.
For the first time, the Russian Competitive Programming Federation presented its awards, honouring the brightest and most talented contestants, coaches, and partners.
The award ceremony took place during the FonCode 2024 Competitive Programming Tournament. The competition began with an online qualifying round, featuring participation from over a thousand programmers. The top 128 performers advanced to the final duels, competing for a prize pool of 1 million roubles.
The tournament culminated in a duel between Fedor Romashov and Ho Dang Zung. The outcome remained uncertain until the very end, as the main round concluded in a draw. An additional problem was needed to determine the winner, ultimately securing victory for Fedor Romashov, a third-year student of the Bachelor’s Programme in Applied Mathematics and Information Science.
It is no surprise that Fedor was also named the Best Competitive Programmer of 2024, according to the CPF.
'It was unexpected and gratifying to receive the CPF award,' said Fedor Romashov. 'I've had several cool victories over the past year. My team and I won ICPC 2023, which I consider to be my best and most significant achievement in this field. I'm also happy about my victory in the Games of the Future competition, which was an incredible experience.’
Mikhail Gustokashin, Director of the Centre of Student Competitions at the Faculty of Computer Science, received the Coach of the Year Award. In 2024, under Mikhail's leadership, one team from the HSE Faculty of Computer Science became the world champion in the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), while another team took third place and received a gold medal.

'The Competitive Programming Federation hosts numerous contests featuring interesting problems and experimenting with various formats. Our students take great pleasure in participating in these contests and have achieved remarkable success. The recognition from the CPF is truly rewarding and motivates us to continue our work!’ concludes Mikhail Gustokashin.
